| Course Description |
This course aims to orient students to the basic knowledge and skills of ethnomusicology. It aims to enhance skills of aural analysis of music, and knowledge and understanding of social and historical contexts of music practices of other cultures around the world. A variety of lecturers who are specialists in their field of music cultures from around the world will be invited to present. The central theme is the relationship between cultural contexts and music practices, instruments and music elements from an ethnomusicological perspective. |
| Learning Outcomes |
By the end of the course students should: 1) Be familiar with key concepts and terms used in ethnomusicology, and use them in oral adn written discussion. |
| Indicative Assessment |
Research project (60%), Reflective Report on World Music Ensemble participation (20%), and formative Assessment (20%). Attendance is required at 85% of all classes for successful completion. |
| Workload |
1 hour lecture per week, 1 hour tutorial per week, 1 World Music Ensemble rehearsal per week with extra rehearsals scheduled before peformances, 2 performances per semester. |
