| Course Description |
This course will trace the evolution of electronic music from its origins through to the present day. As well as an historical overview of the subject, classic techniques will be investigated and students will create their own works within historical parameters. The methods of the classic tape studio, for example, will be investigated and applied within a digital domain. |
| Learning Outcomes | On the successful completion of this course, students should have gained an understanding of the historical development of electronic music and an ability to analyse and evaluate works from the repertoire. Students should also have developed the skills to construct electronic works of their own which are both technically and aesthetically sound. |
| Indicative Assessment |
Two 1500-2000 word written assignments on historical subjects designated by the lecturer (eg essays, annotated bibliography, annotated webography) (40%), two electronic music works (40%) and journal of seminar notes (20%). |
