Course Description This course is designed for piano students who have demonstrated outstanding ability as vocal and instrumental accompanists. The course is designed for 3rd year students who have already completed two years of accompaniment and have chosen to specialise in accompaniment rather than solo performance. The course enables students to study accompaniment as an art form and a profession in greater depth and detail.
Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this course students will:
  1. have developed sound rehearsal techniques
  2. have developed a portfolio of specialist vocal and instrumental accompaniment repertoire
  3. have the ability to work efficently in a professional environment.
  4. be able to demonstrate confidence in the art of accompaniment performance.
Indicative Assessment

Attendance required at 85% of classes for successful completion.
Repertoire exam 30%
quick study test 20%
20-minute accompaniment recital 50%

Workload

Weekly one hour individual lesson, weekly one hour accompaniment class, masterclasses and workshops with instrumental and vocal performers.

Requisite Statement

Prerequisite
Successful completion of piano studies at Performance 4 and Ensemble Performance 4 level.
