Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate a refined understanding and proficiency in all aspects of performance relative to their instrument/voice commensurate with established international benchmarks, in particular:

1. A reliable technique, good practice habits, musical and stylistic sensitivity, and the ability to express creative ideas using musical language.
2. A sound knowledge of relevant literature and repertoire.
3. The ability to perform in public at a level appropriate to skill development.
4. For jazz students: knowledge of stylistic features of jazz (including tone, phrasing, rhythm, feel, etc), and the ability to improvise appropriate to skill development.
Indicative Assessment

A graded result reflects the level of achievement in technical assessments and recitals. Emphasis is placed on regular critical feedback and formative evaluation by staff. Assessment requirements and criteria vary according to the nature of the discipline. Written guidelines for these will be given to students at the beginning of each course setting out specific requirements and assessment criteria for each discipline.

Workload

Contact time will vary according to the area of principal study.  For orchestral instruments, this will include Symphony Orchestra or Orchestral Repertoire.
