Students normally will participate in up to three nominated concert activities as part of an approved ensemble. Students must submit to the Graduate Performance Coordinator a proposed program of ensemble activities and concert dates for approval. Ensembles may be chosen from:

Orchestra

Chamber Orchestra

Chamber Music

Accompaniment

Opera: a significant operatic role

Vocal Ensemble: one vocal ensemble performance

Big Band

Small Jazz Recording Ensemble

Small Jazz Commercial Ensemble

Jazz Vocal Ensemble

Contemporary Music Ensemble

Percussion Ensemble

Where possible, students will be expected to play a significant role in the functioning of the ensemble. This may include, for example, the performance of a concerto with chamber orchestra or orchestra, or leading a section for a concert, or undertaking a developmental role with rehearsing less experienced students, as librarian or some other major administrative role, as a solo role in an operatic production, or undertaking chamber music in which the student's instrument is featured, or creating an arrangement for Big Band. Chamber music should be a substantial and sustained artistic contribution.  Jazz students would gain experience in writing for, and rehearsing and performing in, a variety of jazz genres.
