| Course Description |
This course consists of in depth study of the work of one or two contemporary philosophers writing on, or issues in, moral, social or political philosophy. New material will be taught each year, and the course will be opened to honours 4 students and graduate students, so that those participating get a feel for what the study of philosophy is like at an advanced level. It will draw upon the research interests of the member of staff taking the course in any one year. This course is intended as a grounding in moral, social and political philosophy for those who intend to continue to 4th year Honours

| Learning Outcomes | In line with the suggestions made above, our aim is for students: (i) to get to grips with work at a reasonably advanced level; (ii) to get used to evaluating ideas and also critical responses to them in the literature; (iii) to participate in discussion of the material that is like that which takes place at honours 4 and graduate level - all with the aim of equipping these undergraduate students to do good work at honours 4 level | |
| Indicative Assessment | Two pieces of written work, one 1500 words (35%) the other 3500 (55%), plus 10% for performance in tutorials or seminars | |
