| Course Description |
The course consists of a six-week internship in the U.S. Congress during January and February. Students will be assigned to the office of a member of the U.S. Congress or the office of a congressional committee. During their time in Washington, students will begin work on a research project to be completed at ANU during the first semester under the supervision of the course coordinator. |
| Learning Outcomes |
Having successfully completed this course, students will have gained the experience of applying their knowledge of American government through practical work experience in the U.S. Congress and will have demonstrated their ability to produce a substantial piece of analytical work on a research topic connected with their work experience in Washington.

Students taking this course will complete a research paper of a maximum of 6000 words. |

| Eligibility |
Admission to this course is limited to six students each year due to the limited number of placements available in the U.S. Congress. Students accepted for this course will be responsible for the cost of their own airfares to Washington, accommodation, and visa charges. Admission to this course for 2011 is now closed. Students wishing to apply for 2012 will need to do so by July 29, 2011. |
