Course Description

The Bound Volume is a summary of the experiences gained during the field work. It consists of the following components:

  1. A Summary of MAE Core Activity Requirements that summarises the activities undertaken for the MAE
  2. A summary of the public health impact of the projects completed by the MAE scholar should be included in the introductory section of the Bound Volume.
  3. Chapters consisting of reports of the field projects undertaken: data analysis, surveillance system evaluation; epidemiological study; establishment or evaluation of a public health surveillance system; Analysis of public health data;
  4. Other activities during the MAE: lessons from the field, scientific manuscript for a peer-reviewed journal, report or other public health publication, oral presentation at a national conference and teaching experiences.

The length of each component will be that which is considered most appropriate to its purpose. Bound Volumes are normally expected to encompass a variety of topics and epidemiological methods. While a Bound Volume may be limited to a single content area, it must include several different studies of the disease/condition.

Indicative Assessment Final assessment will be in accordance with the Examinations (The Faculties) Rules 2002 and the Graduate Award Rules 2006. The Bound Volume is examined by two external examiners selected from persons with experience in field epidemiology, appointed by the Delegated Authority on the recommendation of the Program Director. The examiners who review the Bound Volume will conduct an oral examination (viva) of the student before the end of the fourth semester. The viva will focus on the work in the Bound Volume.
Workload Full time enrolment is compulsory in all semesters. At the end of the program each candidate will be required to submit a Bound Volume for examination.
