Course Description

This course is designed to further develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in the Spanish language. Grammatical structures and vocabulary are reviewed and extended, and further training is provided in language learning strategies. Students are also exposed to texts and audio-visual materials in which the cultures and societies of Spanish-speaking countries are explored further.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion, the students' communicative competence should enable them to function adequately in predictable communication requirements of a Spanish-speaking environment. They should be able to understand, talk and write on a variety of topics in Spanish. Furthermore, they should be able to read easy short literary and current affairs texts and relate them to Spanish-speaking cultures.

Indicative Assessment

A mixture of tests (70%), assignments (25%), performance and participation in class (5%).

Workload

4 hours of classes per week, plus at least 6 hours of regular work per week outside class.

Eligibility

Students should have an assumed language proficiency equivalent to the successful completion of the course SPAN1002.

Requisite Statement

SPAN1002 or equivalent level of language proficiency demonstrated by sitting a language placement test.
