Southeast Asian Studies Major

Because the value of languages only arises with an understanding of the context in which they are used, students will also choose a Contextual major. Students of the Thai and Vietnamese languages, whilst it is not mandatory that they do so, are encouraged to choose the Southeast Asian Contextual Major.
Requirements
Each Contextual major is made up of eight courses comprising of:
- two introductory level courses:
- One of these must be ASIA1025 Individual and Society in Asia and the Pacific A
- two core courses from the Southeast Asian Contextual Major
- two to three ASIA courses directly related to the area of the major
- two other courses (not necessarily from FAS) that fit broadly into the major:
- Relevant courses, while broadly understood, will be confirmed by an academic advisor or the Sub-Dean
