The aim of this major is to expose students from several disciplines (physics, mathematics, earth science) to the computational geophysics inherent in the earth sciences.
Requirements
This major consists of a minimum of 42 units consisting of:
(a) PHYS1101 Advanced Physics I and PHYS1201 Advanced Physics II. These courses have a co-requisite of mathematics (either MATH1013 or MATH1115, then MATH1014 or MATH1116).
(b) MATH2305 Differential equations and Applications or MATH2405 Maths Methods 1 Honours: Ordinary Differential Equations and Advanced Vector Calculus and PHYS2020 Thermal and Statistical Physics
(c) PHYS3070 Physics of the Earth and PHYS3034 Physics of Fluid Flows
plus any one of:
- PHYS3001 Theoretical Physics
- PHYS3032/52 Condensed Matter Physics
- PHYS3033/3031 Nuclear and Atomic Physics
