The School of Music currently delivers a Bachelor of Music with majors in Performance, Performance (Jazz), Composition and Musicology with the primary focus being to produce graduates who will have careers as the leading performers, composers and musicologists of their generation.  The new Bachelor of Professional Music Practice (BProMusPr) will cater to those students who wish to study music with a view to entering a music-related career but who do not aspire to becoming elite performers.  The degree's point of difference is a suite of professional practice units which will result in graduates who are broadly trained music professionals.  There are currently no programs in Australia that have this as their primary goal.

Admission Requirements

Admission to all programs is on a competitive basis, taking into account all relevant academic qualifications. If you hold more than one qualification, admission will be based on your overall record. Tertiary qualifications are generally weighted more heavily than secondary. If you have completed an approved tertiary preparation course or alternative entry scheme, you will be assessed on the results of that scheme alone, unless you have undertaken subsequent study.

Prerequisites

Entry into the BProMusPr will be based on UAI/ATAR and audition/interview.  The UAI/ATAR entry point will be equivalent to that required for entry to the BA.  Once an application has been lodged through UAC applicants will be required to contact the School of Music Office to arrange an audition/interview. 

Auditions/interviews will be held in designated weeks in November each year or by special arrangement at other times of the year.  Audition/interview panels will determine whether a student is of acceptable standard.  Successful applicants will be expected to be able to demonstrate musical knowledge and practical skills in one or more of the following areas - instrumental, vocal, musicology, composition or other relevant field.  International applicants may submit a recent high quality recording and portfolio in lieu of an audition/interview
