Modern Australian society has been heavily shaped by public policies in the endeavour to create greater social equality and justice. The ebbs and flows of domestic and international political, social and economic trends, issues and controversies further influence the developments of these public policies.

The Bachelor of Policy Studies at ANU is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of Australian public policies and some related international policies. In order to help contextualise Australian public policies, students are also introduced to the historical developments of these policies and how they helped to define modern public policies. Graduates in the Bachelor of Policy Studies will have the skills and knowledge to conduct economic analysis, gather and analyse statistics and critique Australian public policies.

Learning Outcomes

Successful completion of this program enables students to:

  • comprehensively define current Australian public policies
  • critique the historical developments of current Australian public policies;
  • gather and analyse economic data and statistics related to Australian public policies;
  • outline topics and issues related to their major fields of study, and
  • create connections between topics and issues related to their major fields of study and Australian public policies.

Admission Requirements

Admission to all programs is on a competitive basis, taking into account all relevant academic qualifications. If you hold more than one qualification, admission will be based on your overall record. Tertiary qualifications are generally weighted more heavily than secondary. If you have completed an approved tertiary preparation course or alternative entry scheme, you will be assessed on the results of that scheme alone, unless you have undertaken subsequent study.
