Bachelor of Translation (Asian Region)
The demand by employers for Asian Studies graduates is keen and ever increasing.
Graduates of this new specialist course will have an intensive grounding in one or two Asian languages. While this degree does not give a professional translation qualification, it provides excellent grounding towards obtaining accreditation as a translator/interpreter. Major corporations and arms of government have looked to ANU graduates for expertise on the Asian region for many years. Faculty graduates are finding employment in areas such as the media, marketing, international trade, banking and finance, the tourist industry, and federal and state government departments with policy interests in Asia. Faculty graduates have been employed by a wide range of organisations such as major national and international consulting firms, Non-Government Organisations (including aid, humanitarian and human rights agencies), the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Boral Asia, Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, the Department of Defence, Cathay Pacific, Coopers & Lybrand, Deacons Graham & James, Hyundai Corporation, Japan External Trade Organisation, KPMG, Price Waterhouse and the World Bank. This degree will equip graduates to undertake leading edge work in these areas.
