The Graduate Diploma in Environment is a flexible interdisciplinary coursework degree which allows students to develop a program of advanced learning suited to their individual interests and skills in environment and sustainability. The program comprises 18 units in a suite of core topic areas, and 30 units focused on an individual specialisation of the student’s choice. GDE graduates can expect to:
• gain both a broad knowledge base about contemporary issues and challenges in environment and sustainability science, and a high level of knowledge of a specific topic reflecting their interests;
• develop their independent learning as well as, analytical, teamwork, and oral and written communication skills;
• develop networks relevant to their academic and professional interests; and
• be better placed to respond to the challenges of environment and sustainability through their chosen careers.
The Graduate Diploma in Environment allows students to take courses from across the ANU, to draw from the Australian National University’s breadth and strength in the environment and sustainability domains; specialisations (a sample of which are listed below) reflect this breadth. The flexibility of course requirements for both the core and specialisation component of the degree allows programs to be structured to meet individual interests. Given the flexibility of the degree, each student is required to discuss their proposed program with a Fenner School Graduate Advisor, who will help develop and must approve it.
Please note that all applicants for the Master of Environment need to include two professional referee reports with their application.
Admission Requirements
Applicants should have a Bachelor degree with grades at levels that indicate capacity for graduate work. However, equivalent relevant work experience and publications may also be taken into account in assessing eligibility. Applicants need to include two professional referee reports.
