The Graduate Certificate in International Relations introduces students to the graduate study of (1) the key contemporary issues and debates in world politics; (2) the major conceptual approaches to understanding the underlying patterns in international relations and (3) to the necessary advanced writing and research skills for exploring international relations as an area of study. It covers such topics as the global political economy, global security, international institutions, China and Asia-pacific security, contending images of global order, Islam and world politics, American power, sovereignty and globalisation, the politics of global environmental issues, and the 'arc of instability' in the surrounding region. The program also introduces students to the main conceptual approaches to international relations including politcial realism, liberalism, constructivism and critical theories.
