Course Description

In Sculpture 4 studio students have the opportunity to explore individual areas of interest by developing individual projects. A short introduction to video installation is presented and higher-level skills, techniques, processes are developed. Critical thinking and creative problem solving are encouraged. Studio theory contextualizes student study within the broader arts context. Occupational health and safety instruction is an integral part of this course.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you should be able to

  1. competently utilize a range of higher level skills relevant to the discipline, in response to set tasks
  2. independently explore the potential of material/s
  3. experiment with the application of concepts and processes
  4. critically engage with historical and theoretical contexts
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LOs 1 – 4]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). [LOs 2 – 4]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

12 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.
