In this course, two or more thematically linked projects will be undertaken, one wheel-based and the other, off-wheel. These will be developed in consultation with peers and staff. Part 2 of the compulsory Glaze/Clay/Kilns component is undertaken in Ceramic Design 4. Occupational health and safety instruction is an integral part of this course.

By the end of this course you should be able to

1. demonstrate an increased level of skill with use of materials, processes, equipment and tools
2. plan and manage design projects, independently or collaboratively
3. interpret, communicate and present ideas suited to individual design solutions showing integration of concepts and processes
4. demonstrate awareness of historical and theoretical contexts for design practice
5. comply with OH&S requirements and procedures.

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LO’s 1 – 5]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). [LO’s 2, 4, 5]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

12 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.
