In Glass Design 6, each student develops and undertakes an individually design-based project in consultation with academic staff.  Experimental studio based research explores the convergence of material exploration and developing ideas, informed by contemporary and/or historical precedents in the field of glass and/or the broader design arts. Critical reflection is further developed and studio theory further consolidates student's ability to articulate a contextual framework for their work.   Students will develop, complete and exhibit a substantial body of design-related work in glass at the end of the semester. Occupational health and safety instruction is an integral part of this course.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

1. Demonstrate skill in planning and execution of an independent design project
2. Develop, research and evaluate design concepts and processes through creative, critical and reflective thinking
3. Present ideas in a mode suitable for a range of audiences
4. Work independently and/or collaboratively in response to the project’s demands
5. Reflect on social and cultural issues and apply local and international perspectives to practices in the design arts
6. Comply with OH & S requirements and procedures

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LO’s 1 – 4, 6]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). [2, 3, 5, 6]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

12 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.
