This course allows a special topic of study for individuals or small groups of students who wish to gain particular or additional knowledge in a topic in environment and society not covered in other courses taught in the School or elsewhere in the University. Depending on the topic, students may be required to develop a guided reading program, and/or to take part in selected lectures, workshops, tutorials, seminars, discussion groups, field trips and other activities.

On satisfying the requirements of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

1. pursue guided investigation of of a topic relevant to the environment, synthesise relevant knowledge, and communicate that learning in seminar and written formats

The nature and weightings of assessment items will be customised in negotiation with each student, but will be based on:

• Development and presentation of a learning plan (LO 1)
• A summary paper or papers of 5000 words in total (LO 1)

Students are expected to devote at least ten hours a week to guided readings and/ or attending selected lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials, and supporting work.

Admission to this course is at the discretion of the Associate Director Education, Fenner School, subject to the availability of a suitable supervisor. Requires Credit average performance in 2000 and 3000 level courses.
