Course Description

This course focuses on key issues associated with valuing Mergers AND Acquisitions (M&A) transactions for a firm. The focus of the course is the interaction of strategy, finance and valuation. The course looks at why companies pursue M&A and the impact it has on a firm. The course applies various valuation approaches to understand how M&A deals are structured and implemented in practice.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the requirements for this course, students will be able to:

  • Analyse and assess corporate strategy
  • Assess strategic positioning of the firm with reference to the economic environment
  • Analyse and communicate the implications of valuation to overall corporate strategy
  • Analyse and communicate details of forecasted cash flows
  • Analyse and communicate details of cost of capital estimates
  • Analyse and communicate the structure of takeover deals
  • Work in teams and present results to investment professionals.
