This qualification offers students advanced graduate coursework and research opportunities in Military Studies. Students are encouraged to develop strong analytical frameworks for understanding Australia’s strategic environment and policy, for integrating operational studies within a wider strategic and policy framework, for setting Australian strategic policy in its historical and political context, and for exploring the concurrent evolution of the nature of war and operational theory. The MAMS is suitable for career military officers aspiring to leadership and/or staff appointments at a senior level. It is also a suitable pathway for students wishing to undertake doctoral studies.
Admission Requirements
There is no direct admission to the MAMS. MMS candidates who achieve high standards in their coursework may be invited by the delegated authority to apply to undertake the sub-thesis course prior to the award of the MSS.
Minimum standards for admission into the MAMS are as follows:
- MMS candidates must attain a minimum mark of 50 percent in each course; and
- MMS candidates must obtain a 70 per cent (Distinction) weighted average in the coursework overall.
