Program Requirements

The MAMS is a 72-unit qualification and can be completed in 18 months full-time. Candidates are required to complete 8 of the following 6-unit courses (only 8 of these courses will be offered each year).

 STST8100 Australia's Strategic Environment and Policy I (M)

 STST8101 Australia's Strategic Environment and Policy II (M)

 STST8102 The Theory and Practice of Strategy (M)

 STST8103 Australian Defence Organisation (M)

 STST8104 The Theory and Practice of Military Operations I (M)

 STST8105 The Theory and Practice of Military Operations II (M)

 STST8106 The Theory and Practice of Military Operations III (M)

 STST8107 The Theory and Practice of Military Operations IV (M)

 STST8108 Special Topic in Military Studies (M)

Candidates are also required to complete STST7005F/P - Sub-thesis in Military Studies - Full-time or Part-time.

The requirement for award of the MAMS will be a minimum of Pass (50 per cent) in each course, a 70 per cent (Distinction) weighted average or above in the coursework component, and a minimum grade of Distinction (70 per cent) in the sub-thesis.

MA(MS) students who do not achieve a minimum grade 70 per cent in the sub-thesis may be eligible to transfer to the MMS.
