Course Description

Photomedia 3 is structured around projects designed to introduce a range of skills and technologies coupled with conceptual and thematic aspects. The course teaches studio lighting, medium format photography and critical thinking. Students engage in a process of investigation through individual responses to various topics. A studio theory program that introduces students to aspects of the history and theory of the medium must also be completed. Occupational health and safety instruction is an integral part of this course.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. competently utilize a range of skills relevant to the discipline, in response to Workshop projects
  2. explore the potential of material/s used in Workshop projects
  3. investigate the inventive application of concepts and processes
  4. engage with historical and theoretical contexts relevant to Workshop projects
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LOs 1 – 4]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). [LOs 2 – 4]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

12 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.
