In this studio-based course, students build on innovations developed in Sculpture concepts, materials, processes 3 to extend their skills, techniques and understanding of processes in the discipline of sculpture. Through close consultation with staff students develop a more fully focused Independent Work Proposal, developing works that explore personal areas of interest. A broader range of conceptual and thematic issues is addressed and occupational health and safety instruction is included.

Note: Places in this course are limited. Students are advised to enrol as early as possible.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Identify and develop personal areas of research
2. Demonstrate increased level of skills in techniques and processes, use of specific equipment and technologies
3. Demonstrate understanding of the importance of critical and self-reflective practice
4. Show increased awareness of relevant historical and theoretical contexts

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LOs 1 – 4]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). [LOs 1 – 4]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice and other research.
