In Furniture Design 5, individual work develops over the semester with students undertaking individual projects that allow for the development of specialist knowledge and skills. Studio theory fosters each student's ability to articulate a contextual framework for their developing design practice in response to critical discussion with staff and peers. Occupational health and safety instruction is an integral part of this course.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. plan and execute a design-based project
2. demonstrate a high level of skill in the application of new technologies and practical processes
3. effectively interpret, communicate and present ideas suited to the project through integration of concepts and processes
4. demonstrate expanded awareness of historical and theoretical contexts for art and design practice
5. consider their own work in relation to broader cultural contexts
6. show familiarity with research methodologies

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%) [Learning Outcomes 2 - 6]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

12 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.
