| Course Description |
Building on Graduate Music Research Project 1, this course will give graduate students an opportunity to complete an extended and focused piece of high-level written research on a musical topic. Topics will reflect the current research projects of the school and the wider community, and involve the development of skills in collaborative research. |
| Learning Outcomes |
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to: 1. conceptualise, implement, and project manage a piece of original research on a musical topic; 2. identify, locate, and access all key primary and secondary sources for the research; 3. analyse and synthesize data accurately drawing on multiple theories and research methodologies; 4. present a piece of research in a style and format suitable for submission to an academic journal; and 5. work independently with minimal supervision. |
| Indicative Assessment |
Oral presentation of research proposal, 10% [Learning Outcome 4] Article suitable for submission to an academic journal, 6000 words, 90% [Learning Outomes 1-5] |
| Workload |
One hour per week of contact with the supervisor, and nine hours per week of private study. |
