| Course Description |
This course will provide and introduction to the structure, functions and processes of the Australia's Defence Organisation. It aims to provide students with information and insights which will allow them to understand and work within the organisation more effectively, and contribute constructively to its further development. Specific content will include: history of the ADO, constitutional arrangements relating to Defence, relationship with other departments, leadership in the ADO, financial management, capability development and acquisition processes and problems, comparisons and benchmarking, and reform agendas past and present.
This course is only open to students posted to the Australian Command Staff College. |
| Learning Outcomes |
On satisfying the requirements of this course, students should be able to: 1. Identify the major issues concerning defence management and administration in Australia. 2. Critically analyse the current challenges and future issues in Australian defence management and administration. 3. Analyse and evaluate options for improving defence management and administration. 4. Conduct research and develop policy arguments on key issues of defence management and administration . 5. Demonstrate effective communication skills. |

Short Assignment (20%), Essay (40%), Examination (40%) |
| Workload |
Teaching will occur intensively across approximately 10 working days. Assessment is scheduled during and after the teaching period as part of the overall program timetabling. |
