Course Description The course introduces students to the process of developing an international business development plan for a real organisation (the client organisation). The students also make an oral presentation of their business plan to their client which provides feedback that is part of the assessment. The students also prepare a personal learning report which reviews how the course has added to their understanding of general management issues. The course gives students practice in managing a group project over an extended timeframe on behalf of a real client organisation and requires them to draw on all of the core disciplines of management from IBP Part A as well as an understanding of the international business environment and the challenges facing organisations that operate internationally. The course commences with a series of classroom lectures on principals and processes in dynamic project planning, interaction with ‘client organisations’ and managing international business growth.
Learning Outcomes

By the end of IBP Part B - Application, students should be able to -

  • Develop an international business plan that includes market entry and implementation strategy;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the capabilities companies need to have to operate successfully across borders, and an appreciation of how these capabilities are developed over time;
  • Develop practical plans for implementing medium-term business projects, and
  • Further develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills in a multicultural environment
Indicative Assessment
  • Write up of team project scope 5%
  • Participation in progress workshops 5%
  • Complete written draft of group project report 5%
  • Final group project report 40%
  • Presentation of group project report 15%
  • Peer feedback on group participation 10%
  • Personal learning report 20%

All components of the above assessment are compulsory and must be submitted.  To achieve an automatic pass grade in this course you must obtain 50% or more as a scaled aggregate mark

Areas of Interest Management
Eligibility At least an average of 65% (or equivalent) in the final two years of an Australian undergraduate degree and a minimum of 3 years professional or managerial work experience.

Requisite Statement

The prerequisite for this course is MGMT7184: Integrating Business Project A: Entrepreneurship and New Venture Planning. Students transferring their enrolment to the MBA degree from other programs and who have successfully completed MGMT7161: Entrepreneurship and New Venture Planning as an elective, may apply for this to be taken as equivalent to MGMT7184, subject to approval by the course coordinator.
