Course Description

The primary goal of this course is to continue to develop proficiency in students' communication skills. It concentrates on selected aspects of Spanish grammar as well as on developing the students reading, conversational and writing skills. Grammatical structures and vocabulary are reviewed and extended. Students are also exposed to more complex texts and audio-visual materials in which the cultures and societies of Spanish-speaking countries are explored further.

Learning Outcomes On successful completion, the students' communicative competence should enable them to function effectively in the predictable communication requirements of a Spanish-speaking environment, and to be able to function adequately in unpredictable situations. They should be able to understand, talk and write on a variety of topics in a more complex Spanish. Furthermore, they should be able to read short literary and current affairs texts and relate them to Spanish-speaking cultures.
Indicative Assessment

A mixture of tests (70%), assignments (25%), performance and participation in class (5%).

Workload

4 hours of classes per week, plus at least 6 hours of regular work per week outside class.

Eligibility Students should have an assumed language proficiency equivalent to the successful completion of the SPAN2001 course.
Requisite Statement

SPAN2001 or equivalent level of language proficiency demonstrated by sitting a language placement test.
