Course Description

Glass 4 develops advanced skills in hand blown glass, kiln casting and advanced cold forming. Technical demonstrations and hands on classes are again the main teaching method for these areas of glass working. Set projects include technical, thematic and self-directed projects, and allow individual exploration of concepts and techniques aimed at development of an original body of studio research.  Studio theory is further developed and engages at this level with contemporary themes in glass and wider areas of visual arts. Group discussion and critique sessions extend student ability to analyse and critique their own work and working methods, and the work of others. Occupational health and safety instruction is integrated thought the syllabus.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you should be able to

  1. competently utilize a range of higher level skills relevant to the discipline, in response to set tasks
  2. independently explore the potential of material/s
  3. experiment with the application of concepts and processes
  4. critically engage with historical and theoretical contexts
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LOs 1 – 4]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). [LOs 2 – 4]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

12 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.
