Course Description

In Textiles Design 4, students explore individual areas of interest within a design project-based structure.  Computer and paperwork design instruction continues with the aim of increasing skills in the use of software and paperwork processes. Higher-level design skills are developed through further instruction in textile techniques and processes. Critical thinking and creative problem solving are encouraged and applied through design projects. Studio theory further develops student understanding of the relationship of textile design to broader design and arts areas. Occupational health and safety instruction is an integral part of this course.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you should be able to

  1. demonstrate an increased level of skill with use of materials, processes, equipment and tools
  2. plan and manage design projects, independently or collaboratively
  3. interpret, communicate and present ideas suited to the project through their individual design solutions through integration of concepts and processes
  4. demonstrate awareness of historical and theoretical contexts for design practice
  5. comply with OH&S requirements and procedures.
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LO’s 1 – 5]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). [LO’s 2, 4, 5]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

12 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.

Requisite Statement

DESA2903 Textiles Design 3 or DESA2002 Major 3

Incompatible with DESA3001 Major 4
