Music Practice Minor
Music Practice Minor - Overview
Offered By: |
ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences |
Areas of Interest: |
This minor is available only to students undertaking the Bachelor of Music degree program.
The Music Practice minor gives students the opportunity to develop skills in and understanding of the performance, composition, improvisation, hearing, recording, teaching and professional management of music. A range of music practice courses are available, some requiring significant prior musical experience, others available to students with all levels of prior musical experience, including none. If a student chooses to specialize in a single music practice discipline – for instance, performance in a single instrument, with accompanying aural training – it may be possible for the student to articulate their music practice minor into a music practice major with the same specialisation.
Learning Outcomes
Students completing the Music Practice minor will:
- have the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge of several of the practices, languages, forms, materials, technologies and techniques of a wide range of musics;
- apply relevant skills and knowledge to produce and realise musical works, performances, improvisations and other forms of creative expression;
- interpret and present musical ideas and concepts in several practical and creative modes suited to a range of audiences, informed by inquiry and scholarship;
- have the opportunity to work independently and collaboratively in music in response to authentic project demands in several roles, such as performer, composer, producer, improviser, critic, and manager
