Program Requirements

Where there is mention of Science courses, majors, minors and specialisations this refers to courses, majors, minors and specialisations that are offered by the ANU College of Medicine, Biology and Environment and the ANU College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (see approved lists).

 

This program requires the completion of 144 units, of which:

A maximum of 60 units can come from the completion of 1000 level courses

A minimum of 36 units must be completed in 3000 level Science courses

The 144 units must include:

A minimum of 96 units from the completion of Science courses (see approved course list), including:

  • 54 units from the completion of the following compulsory courses:

CHEM1101  Chemistry 1

CHEM1201  Chemistry 2

BIOL2151  Principles of Genetics

BIOL2161  Genes: Replication and Expression

BIOL3161  Genomics & its Applications

BIOL3204  Human Genetics

  • 6 units of courses chosen from:

BIOL1009  Diversity of Life

COMP1100  Introduction to Programming and Algorithms

  • 6 units of courses chosen from:

STAT1003  Statistical Techniques

STAT1008  Quantitative Research Methods

  • 6 units of 2000 level Science courses chosen from the lists below.
  • A minimum of 12 units of 3000 level Science courses chosen from the lists below
  • 12 units of 3000 level Science elective courses

A maximum of 48 units from completion of elective courses which may be offered by Science, or by another ANU College

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Genetics must maintain an average of 65% in all Science courses each semester to remain this program. Students who do not maintain 65% will be transferred to the 3 year BSc program.
