Program Requirements

The program requires completion of 96 units, 48 units coursework is identical to that offered in Master of Molecular Genetic Analysis plus 48 units of research component.

 

The 48 units coursework component consists of:

(a) Three compulsory courses are required:  

BIOL6004 Population Ecology (6 Units) or BIOL6161 Genes: Replication and Expression (6 Units)

BIOL6006 Introductory Genetics (6 Units)

BIOL8702 Advanced Molecular Biology Techniques 1 (6 or 12 Units)  

 (b) At least 18 units from the following (not all units may be offered each year):

BIOL6016 Population Genetics (6 Units) (Intensive workshop course)

BIOL6243 Advanced Genetics and Bioinformatics (6 Units)

BIOL8291 Research Skills (6 Units)

• BIOL6018 Molecular Genetic Analysis Project (6 or 12 or 18 Units)

BIOL6019 analyses Tools for Population genetics (6 Units) (Intensive workshop course)

 (c) Elective courses can be chosen from:

BIOL6163 Genomics and its Applications (6 Units)

BIOL6005 Conservation Biology (6 Units)

BIOL6162 Molecular Biotechnology (6 Units)

BIOL6142 General Microbiology (6 Units)

BIOL8020 Genomics and Biotechnology (6 Units) - (available online)

BIOL8704 Biology Literature Research Project 

Additional elective courses may be available, please consult with the Program Convener.

Students must retain at least 70% average in the coursework component before continuing into the research compont.  Students who have not met the requirement may opt to exit with Master of Molecular Genetic Analysis program.

 

The research component consists of:

• enrolment in a 24 unit of BIOL8701 Research Project for two semesters
